Beloved sister, aunt and friend, Melinda Steep died peacefully on February 9 surrounded by family and friends in Placentia, CA. She was 52 years old.
Melinda is survived by her brother, Zac of La Verne, CA and sister, Cherie of Lindale, TX, as well as her nieces, Drai and Vivienne and nephew, Jacob. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert F. Steep and mother, Estelle M. Steep.
Melinda was born on February 8, 1965 in Newburgh, Indiana to Robert F. and Estelle M. Steep. While still in high school, Melinda started work as a page at the Monrovia Public Library, and quickly worked her way up to Children’s Librarian while completing her graduate coursework. She graduated from Cal Poly in 1988 with a degree in liberal arts and in 1990 went on to earn her master’s degree in library science from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2004, Melinda accepted a position as Assistant Director at the Yorba Linda Public Library where she soon advanced, becoming the Director.
During her lifetime, Melinda had many achievements; the most notable includes graduating high school, Cal Poly, and UCLA with honors and living abroad as an exchange student in Sweden. Melinda’s first passion is her love of books, followed closely by her love of theatre and travel. A people person to the core, Melinda found great joy in serving others and cultivating lifelong friendships.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17th at Vineyard Community Church – Pomona/Claremont, with a reception to follow. Terry Butler will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Melinda’s life.
