Charles Crail passed away on October 30, 2017 at the age of 84 years. The son of Charles S. Crail and Constance Bennett Crail, he was born in Paris, France and raised in Los Angeles.
Charles graduated from Purdue University with a Mechanical Engineering degree and worked at Rocketdyne to design and build the turbine engines that sent man into space. He also earned an MBA degree from UCLA. He worked at Eckman Center on a team which assisted Junior Colleges in developing programs relevant for their own community, owned a printing company for many years and managed real estate.
Charles had many interests. At Purdue he became a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was a founding member of the Purdue Flying Club. He served as President of the San Fernando Valley Professional Engineers Society and printed their newsletters. Charles was appointed to the Mayor’s Community Advisory Committee. He had a life long passion for railroads, subways and tunnels taking vacation trips to visit many transportation venues.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean, daughter Sheri Barnicle (Dennis), sons David (Marcia), Scott (Diane) and seven grandchildren, Dan Barnicle, Brian Barnicle, Kyla Crail Beavens, Casey Crail, Mary Crail, Megan Crail and Hannah Crail.
A private graveside interment service will be held on Monday, January 29th, 2018 at 11am.
