October-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

19 Oct 2022

  • Sidewalk-to-History

October, and the cool air across our 60 acres of history reminds us that Fall has arrived. When we talk about our yesterdays, we are always reminded that your adventures in family research begin on our sidewalk. Our sidewalk starts just inside our Fair Oaks gate. If that Lao Tzu journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, then your Genealogy first step, begins, absolutely, on our sidewalk.

  • Good-Woman-Gone

Her name was Rachel and if you’re a nurse, your visit to Mountain View will most likely include a visit to pay your respects. She came from a big family, was one of the very few women that practiced as a doctor. A Civil War Army Nurse, she married a fellow doctor and rode a bicycle built for two here in Pasadena in an early Rose Parade, passing of respiratory problems, only a few days later. Quite a story. Dr. Rachel F. Reid. A Good Woman Gone. Google her.

  • Music-Music-Music

His name is Wilbur Hatch and he’s the man that created the theme song for I Love Lucy, most probably, the world’s most endearing popular TV show. He created quite a few movie and TV music themes including The Untouchables and Star Trek, and he rests here at Mountain View, alongside our many now resting creative artists of Hollywood.

  • A-Time-for-Reflection

This is the season of reflection and there’s no better place for introspection, then the foyer of our popular Sunrise Chapel. You’ll find a winter scene etched in stained-glass that is always quite a conversation starter. It reminds one of that snowy description of legendary poet Robert Frost in his ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.’ Stop by and see for yourself. It’s pure poetry

  • Halloween-Fun

Mountain View and Halloween go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly. Like the Sun and the Moon. Like a Trick and a Treat. Have a Happy Halloween. Oh, yeah, Go Dodgers!

Till we look out the window here at Mountain View once again…
