Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again…
January brought music, history, welcoming rain, community service and plenty of reasons to look forward to the months ahead at Mountain View Cemetery.
A Special Chamber Music Saturday
Saturday, January 27, was a very special day at Mountain View. The acclaimed string quartet Salastina performed inside our Mother Mausoleum on Marengo Avenue.
The setting made the concert unforgettable. Visitors experienced the beauty of the historic stained glass, the remarkable acoustics of the mausoleum and the inspiring Story of Christianity ceiling fresco.
We extend our sincere thanks to the performers, organizers and everyone working behind the scenes who helped make the concert such a wonderful event.
Discovering the New Radiance Wing
After the concert, many visitors continued exploring the mausoleum and discovered the New Radiance wing in all its glory.
New Radiance combines traditional stained-glass artistry with a bold, modern visual style reminiscent of artist Peter Max. The result is colorful, uplifting and unlike anything else on the Mountain View grounds.
It is easy to understand why so many people spend time visiting—and revisiting—this remarkable space.
Mountain View Turns Emerald Green
The January rains arrived, as they often do, and transformed the cemetery grounds into a landscape greener than green.
After the welcoming rain, Mountain View seemed to take on the appearance of the Emerald Isle, with the beauty and rich color often associated with Ireland.
The refreshed lawns, mature trees and peaceful surroundings created a beautiful setting for visitors, families and neighbors.
Oppenheimer, Richard Feynman and Local History
The annual Academy Award nominations also brought attention to director Christopher Nolan’s film Oppenheimer, which received nominations in multiple categories.
Many local residents know that several of the movie’s period scenes were filmed nearby in Sierra Madre.
One of the major historical figures portrayed in the film was physicist Professor Richard Feynman, who now rests in the scenic Founders Lawn area of Mountain View Cemetery.
His connection to Mountain View is another reminder of the remarkable people and stories represented throughout our grounds.
Thank You to Our Cemetery Volunteers
We are grateful to the volunteers who periodically visit Mountain View to help clean and preserve cemetery markers.
Some of these dedicated volunteers were recently featured in a television interview. Our neighbor Ariel took a moment away from spraying and scrubbing the markers to say hello and share a wonderful smile.
Ariel lives only a few minutes’ walk from Mountain View and is always a welcome visitor. We deeply appreciate everyone who gives their time and energy to help care for this historic cemetery.
Looking Ahead to Valentine’s Day and Baseball
Can you feel it in the air? Valentine’s Day is almost here, and local flower shops are preparing for one of their busiest days of the year.
Another much-anticipated day is also approaching: the beginning of the 2024 baseball season.

It was a special Saturday in January. January 27th. A very special chamber music Saturday with string quartet Salastina in concert inside our Mother Mausoleum on Marengo Avenue. It was all there. The Stained Glass. The mausoleum sound acoustics. Our “Story of Christianity” ceiling fresco. Thanks to our performers and everyone behind the scenes that made it all such a wonderful event.

After the concert on January 27th, quite a few visitors wandered through our mausoleum and found our New Radiance wing in all her glory. New Radiance combines traditional stained glass with a modern Peter Max visual sensibility. It’s a rather glorious effect. Small wonder that so many people spend time visiting and revisiting New Radiance.

Those rains came as they do every January and our cemetery grounds became greener than green. After all that welcoming rain, you could almost describe our Mountain View grounds as The Emerald Isle. Yes, we had the look of Ireland in all her glory.

One of the major characters portrayed in the movie was our own Professor Richard Feynman, now resting in our scenic Founders Lawn area of Mountain View Cemetery.

Neighbor Ariel took time out from spraying and scrubbing to say hello and give us a wonderful smile. Ariel lives only a few minutes walk from Mountain View and is always a welcome visitor.
Can you feel it in the air? Yes, Valentines Day is closer than close. We know all our flower shops are getting ready for their big day. Speaking of a big day. It’s almost here. The first day of Baseball 2024. Go Dodgers!
