April-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

April is here. April means Earth Day in all her glory. There are so many ways to celebrate the nurturing of Mother Earth. Green is the obvious symbol of Mother Earth and thanks to all our February and March rain, our grounds have the look of Ireland. Home gardeners, here is your inspiration. Your local hardware store is moments away!

March-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

Spring is here. There could be no better way to celebrate Spring and Woman’s History Month, than by stopping by and paying respects to Emma Bangs, Inn Keeper and entrepreneur. Pasadena tourists flocked to her early Vista Del Arroyo Hotel that she later renamed The Emma Bangs Boarding House, now the site of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Emma was one of a kind. Ahead of the curve. A Renaissance woman.

January-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

It’s January. January 2023. The start of a New Year and a reminder of our early days. It was the days before databases and online shopping. It was the days of horse power and orange groves and history in the making. Our welcoming Fair Oaks gate has been through many evolutions and has been greeting family visitors since way back in 1882.

December-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

It’s December. That special month with those special magic words. Hanukkah. Christmas. Songs. Presents. More presents. Cookies. More cookies.
Nicole, our Mountain View graduate studies in film lady, took time from speaking with our families and our neverending flower deliveries, to decorate our Mountain View Christmas tree. Her artistic eye for colors and decorations helped remind us all, that Santa, is on his way.

November-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

It’s November and nothing says November like those Midwest Fall colors that make a walk through our cemetery, a walk to remember. All those colors are here. Yellows, Reds and an occasional Rust color to add to our November natural palette. With over two hundred species of trees that grace our grounds, there’s a style and a something for everyone to see and enjoy.

October-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

October, and the cool air across our 60 acres of history reminds us that Fall has arrived. When we talk about our yesterdays, we are always reminded that your adventures in family research begin on our sidewalk. Our sidewalk starts just inside our Fair Oaks gate. If that Lao Tzu journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, then your Genealogy first step, begins, absolutely, on our sidewalk.

September-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

September, and we joined in celebrating the life and loss of Queen Elizabeth 2. Our Mountain View flag was flown at half-mast to remind all of us that she was a very special lady and dear friend of America. There are many English transplants that rest here at Mountain View. This marker is for the Heath family, one of our earliest U.K. neighbors to trust their remains to our sacred grounds.

August-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

The magic month of August has arrived. Our Altadena August mornings are quite beautiful. As the sun slowly rises, the colors of our flowers gracing our Fair Oaks Gate are in full view. We owe the beauty of the morning to Mother Nature and of course our grounds crew. Every morning they arrive early. Well before that early sunrise. Thanks guys.

July-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again…

The magic month of July is here. Summer 2022! Summertime is the time to walk through our history. You’ll find architect extraordinaire, Joseph James Blick. Born in Iowa. Arriving in Pasadena, he worked with his dad in construction, and soon formed Blick & Moore. He designed the Star-News Bldg. and many local homes including General Patton’s home in San Marino. A local life story to Google. Do it now.

June-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

The magic month of June has arrived. June means many wonderful things. Flowers. Summer walks. Summer talks. We always welcome new visitors and especially out-of-town tourists to our more than sixty acres of history. Greeting our visitors at our Fair Oaks Gate is our cemetery sign with colors by Sammy, our Top Gun, artist of flowers.
